Understanding Retread vs. Remolded Tires
Many of us have looked at the tires sold by TreadWright Tires and wondered if they are any good. As a result I figured I'd create this thread to show you the difference between a remold and a retread tire. This is important because retreads have a bad history falling apart. Companies like TreadWright Tires are not retreads. They are Remolds. I think the videos below will make it very clear why the remolds are so much better.

Retread:

Remold:

One thing I need to say is that TreadWright Tires use to only remold the tread area and not the side walls. They now seem to be doing a bead to bead remold like you see in the video above. When you go to their website you'll see something on some of the tires listed that says "B2B". That's what they are talking about. I hope that helps clear up some of the misinformation floating around about companies like TreadWright Tires.

They are almost like brand new tires. Granted there is still is the wear and tear on the cords to factor in. However the price difference is pretty big and I guess if you care there's the recycling factor to consider too. My only issue if the lack of support for 15" tires. They pretty much said 16" and up is what we will focus on. That means new wheels for me if I ever want to go that route.

I have treadwrights. solid tire all around. Allegedly 10-20% natural rubber which means more miles on the tires!

I use them too. I'm kind of bummed that I went for so long out of alignment and wore two of them pretty bad. And they don't made a mud tire in LT215/85R16 any more.

Good tires, though!

I use to see a cl add for somebody out of Ithaca selling remolds, they looked like a good tread pattern, similar to the mtr.

I saw those too and wondered where he was getting them from. Maybe Blems from a factory that remolds them?

Some one from cnyjeep had talked to him, I was left with the impression he was making his own. After seeing how they are made I would give them a shot.

Unless you run your tires too the cords you can acutally regroove them for little cost come paired too repops.

I wouldn't run rethreads on steers on anything except maybe a trail only ride.

I would too. Wish he was still posting. I wish they had more sizes for 15 wheels too. But I understand. It's supply and demand.
