H1 - DIY Double Beadlock Wheels

RE: H1 - DIY Double Beadlock Wheels
Since vibrations drive me crazy I balanced the wheels before painting them.

First I indexed the wheel by hammering a chisel mark on the hub side where the halves meet. Then stamped each with a letter so the two halves will line up in the same spot. Then installed a valve stem and fully bolted the wheel together.

Ran them on the balancer.

Next welded on thick washers here and on the inner bead area. Each washer is about 3/4oz. I kept blobbing on more weld until the weight was correct.

Great idea. How much where they off? Ball park on the worse one?

Worst was a total of 3.5oz. 2 in the recessed area and 1.5 on the inner bead. I think the rock ring wasn't perfectly centered on that one. Instead of welding them on top of the bead, I ground each one down so it would sit flush.

Primed the wheels yesterday. Here is what I get for ignoring the voices in my head saying let it cure over the weekend. Doh! Thankfully I only sprayed one wheel.

I hate when that happens. We always know better. Do you have access to a blast cabinet?

I have a sand blaster, but haven't built a cabinet for it yet.

I finished painting the outer halves. Glossy black and hammered dark bronze. The bronze seems to have a grey/green tint to it, not quite what I was expecting. Oh well, gona run it for now.

That's a cool finish, looks almost black or like a real dark od. Still cool looking. Next post they ought to be mounted up right?
