Custom Rear Bumper

RE: Custom Rear Bumper
That could get very expensive if you mess up on the bends too. If it's not something you can live with you're going to have to use more metal and do it again. Plate steel is not cheap. Just keep those things in mind and make sure you check and recheck all your measurements over and over again before you make those bends.

RE: Custom Rear Bumper
No problem. You'll get it if you take your time. Where are you building it at? You could always bring it and your welder here to my shop and I could give you a hand. If there is no expense on my end I'll give you a hand just because.

RE: Custom Rear Bumper
I have a brake at work I can use early mornings or late nights, but I have a feeling your not around me. (if you are let me know, see what I can do) Nothing wrong with using 1/4", but your frame is only 3/16"s. But, what you can do is extend the mounting bracket to go a foot or so along the frame and throw 4 or 5 grade 8 bolts in different locations...that strengthen the frame and bumper...and again, that's if you have room to extend along the frame.

If your worried about 3/16s denting, you can gusset the inside multiple times to get the strength...and honestly, a 3/16"s bumper with gussets is still going to be stronger than a 1/4" without.

No problem with bending that I can see....I think it would look better (but you do run the chance of an uneven degree bend along the length), but like Alvarez said, some nice beads (id spray arc it) and a sanding disk, and you wont be able to tell the difference, you just have to tack it down and make sure it doesn't warp. I would NOT use a stick honestly, But if I had to, id use a 7018AC or something of that nature.

RE: Custom Rear Bumper
Good to know about your access to a brake Wink A brake capable of bending metal that thick is on my to buy list but it's pretty far down the list at this moment. Plus that will take up quite a bit of room in my shop.

That's why it's low on my list lol. I know those things are massive. I need a bigger shop before I get one of those. I may try and build something that can do 4" wide though. Basically like the one Swag offroad sells for the hydraulic press but wider.

RE: Custom Rear Bumper
thanks for the offer dmiller, I appreciate it. just saw these posts today, and I actually already had GJV enterprises on Murray street in rochester do it. it cost me $80 for it, but I feel it was worth it. the bend came out excellent and everything is matching up really well so far. ill post some pics up when I get to my laptop.

here are some pics so far. All that is done is the two main mounting brackets. those are made of 1/4" steel, the main face of the bumper is 3/16" steel, but there will be plenty of gussets and reinforcements behind it as i will be putting in a hitch and clevis shackle mounts. Once that is done the swing arm fabrication will begin. more to come over the next few days.[Image: Image_zps9d70f68f.jpg][Image: Image1_zps12925e81.jpg][Image: Image2_zpse0c07df2.jpg]
